What is Taiko Drumming?

Originating centuries ago in Japan, taiko drumming has evolved from military, ceremonial, and spiritual roots into a dynamic performance art form. Taiko drums range in size from smaller hand-held drums to large, barrel-like drums that produce a deep sound and can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
The Japanese o-daiko drum, in particular, produces a broad range of sounds, from low to high pitches. By using different playing techniques, a single o-daiko can create a variety of tones, much like a grand piano.
