Hiroshima’s latest landmark the Hiroshima Orizuru Tower has been completed renovating as commercial facilities in September 2016. The building was originally completed in 1978 as an office building. There used to be a property of the Mazda dealer operated by the Matsuda family, the founder of Mazda Motor Company before WWII. Because there is located near the hypocenter, the dealer lost all employees includes a family member by atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. However, other family members restarted the business at other place after then, and they purchased here again and decided to open new facility which visitors can think about peace and the history of the city. The facility has experience area, shop, and cafes which experience the past, present, and future of Hiroshima.

Features (1) Orizuru Square / Orizuru Wall

Paper cranes are kind of symbol of peace here in Hiroshima, and you might know bunch of 1,000 paper cranes are contributed at the Peace Memorial Park. You can see paper cranes are drawn on the front of the building, and there is named Orizuru Wall. Features (2) Hiroshima Hill

A rooftop observation is named the Hiroshima Hill. There is surrounded with mesh covering to let the wind blow through. The Orizuru Tower has café named The Akushu Café. Akushu means handshaking in Japanese. The Café has 2 locations; “Park Side” on the 1st floor and “Wind Side” on the rooftop floor. Both locations serve mouth-watering snacks which adopt local taste, and take-out also available (Wind Side is take-out only). Therefore, souvenir shop is also located on the 1st floor. The shop sells about 1,000 items of Hiroshima’s local specialties to inherit former prefectural commercial exhibition hall, now known as the A-Bomb Dome.
