Living close to History and the World: share houses in Narita

By Ana Jun 19, 2018

Narita is known for being the main gateway to Japan

“Narita” is a familiar name for those who travel to Japan. Only in 2016, Almost 7 million visitors from overseas have entered Japan from Narita Airport. You have probably been (or will be) there too.
Unfortunately, many of those who have arrived at Narita Airport have not taken time to discover the city of Narita’s charm, much less have thought about living there.
What a pity.
Not only Narita is home of historical sites, but it is also a great place to live as well as spend some vacation.

Felling the History: Retro Japan

Naritasan Omotesando Street

Right outside Narita Station is Naritasan Omotesando Street, an 800-meter long path where time has stopped. The starting point of this short journey is Narita Station, where you will see traditional Japan coexisting with an international atmosphere. One face of the station goes to Daishido, an old Buddhist temple,
While the other front of the station is a busy street with plenty of restaurants, favorite spots for the crews and staff of domestic and international airlines. This is an excellent spot for having some ramen!

 Neighborhoods

After having a good meal, time to go for a walk. Middle of Naritasan Omotesando Street, you will find plenty of options for deserts: here is the place for Western-Japanese sweets. At this neighborhood, Take some time to explore the traditional buildings and ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). There is also a famous store for purchasing bamboo kitchenware that we bet your family back home would love receiving them as gifts!

Temples

End of Naritasan Omotesando Street neighborhood. It reserves you remarkable experiences. First, take some time to visit and relax at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, a Buddhist temple complex that started to be built in the year of 940. Some of the buildings inside this compound are from Edo-period (1603-1868) and are registered as Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government. You may need a whole day to visit everything!

Traditional Summer Festival

Narita hosts every summer the Narita Gion Festival. Approximately 450,000 people join this festival every year to enjoy the festival floats, folk music and dance, and food stalls.
The festival floats are decorated for the festival, and you can join by cheering to those who are carrying it. From elderly residents to primary school students, this festival is held with the power and love of those who care about the city of Narita.

Some of the highlights of the festival are the Sobiki Parade and the night views. We also enjoyed the kids folk dance parade – they are so cute!

Try wearing a yukata when going to a summer festival! 🙂

Falling in love with Narita: let’s share a house there

With so many to see and experience, it is not difficult to want to stay in Narita for more than a day.
However, renting a place in Japan is not an easy task for those from overseas. The first month of rent is around four times the monthly fee, and many landlords do not accept foreign tenants.
These are some of the reasons Guidable recommends its readers to live in a share house.
Hokusou Sharehouse administrates the best girls-only share houses options in Narita. Both houses are very close to Narita Station, so you will be able to visit Naritasan Omotesando Street at any time!

Great infrastructure close to both share houses!

Living in Tokyo and its surroundings is really busy. having good infrastructure and some comfort around your house is fundamental to get some quality of life here. Both share houses on this article are only 1 minute to Lawson (convenience store), which can be very helpful for those lazy days when you don’t want to go too far for a snack.

If you get tired of convenience store food, the area has plenty of restaurants and bars, so you don’t need to go too close to the station to have dinner.

Also, in the way from the station to the share houses, you will find a big supermarket, where most products are cheaper than at the convenience stores, and Matsumoto Kiyoshi, probably the favorite Japanese drugstore by tourists and expats in Japan. Girls, make up has never been so easy to reach from home.

Another huge strong point of these share houses is having an AEON Mall from 10-min walking distance. AEON Mall is a famous shopping mall in Japan. It is not easy to find it in Tokyo. People who can go to AEON Mall by walking are very lucky.

By the way, the AEON Mall in Narita has a Hello Kitty-decorated restroom! “This is Japan!”
