If you visit Japan between December and March, you may see a lot of strawberry flavour snacks in your local conbini (Japanese convenience stores). In Japan itself, they have a lot of strawberry picking places that you can visit between the winter to spring seasons. But do not be sad if you can’t go to a strawberry picking place, you should try to go to the nearest convenience store to discover their strawberry snacks. However, please be aware that these snacks are mainly limited edition, which means they are only available for a season or even just a few weeks.
Also, why not check out these winter snacks from conbini.
Conbini Here We Come….
As I have done all the research for you, here are my recommendation of “five strawberry snacks you should try from conbini” for this month!
Strawberry Baumkuchen (あまおう莓のバウムクーヘン)
If you are a big fan of Baumkuchen, I recommend buying this limited edition strawberry Baumkuchen. There are two distinct layers, the main part consists of a dense crumb that has a bit of resistance when you bite into it, but it’s still nice and fluffy. This contrasts with the smooth and silky layer on the outside. In terms of smell, it has a very strong smell of strawberry.

Galbo Strawberry Milk (ガルボいちごミルク)

I am pretty sure you guys know this chocolate brand, or maybe you are a fan of this chocolate. Galbo has many chocolate flavours, and they are also likely to have a limited edition option. Usually, during strawberry season, Galbo has this strawberry milk chocolate edition which can be found in almost every convenience store in Japan. These strawberry-flavoured chocolates feature creamy milk chocolate on the inside. In terms of the shape, they remind me of beans. Overall, the Galbo chocolate always has a surprising taste when it comes to limited-edition flavours such as this one.

Strawberry Chocolate Bread (いちごチョコづくし)

This might just be the most exciting and delicious bread I’ve ever tasted from conbini. This bread is unique in terms of looks and taste. The bread itself is covered with strawberry dough on the top, and inside the bread, it has strawberry and dark chocolate chunks. There is a perfect mixture between the bread, chocolate and the strawberry dough on the top of the bread. In terms of the chocolate itself, there is both strawberry-flavoured chocolate and dark chocolate, which gives the bread a pleasant taste. The chocolate chunks are placed between the strawberry dough and the top of the bread, and each bite is so rich in flavour because of the chocolate chunks until the last bite. Overall, this is a great yet simple bread if you want to upgrade your bread.

Bite-Sized Strawberry Chocolate (ひとくち苺チョコ)

This choco ball has a unique taste. At first, you may think this is a hard choco ball, but actually, it is just like a jelly ball but covered with strawberry chocolate. Personally, I could not really taste the condensed milk; however, this also gives a unique texture. Although it may look too sweet, it isn’t, and indeed, it is very soft once you bite into it. For me, this is must-try strawberry chocolate because there is a perfect combination of jelly and chocolate flavoured using amaou strawberries.

Butter Biscuit Sandwich (バタービスケットサンド)

What comes to mind when you hear biscuit? Probably soft and not chewy, or probably something crumbly. However, when it comes to this butter biscuit, it has a soft texture and is not crumbly at all. In terms of size, it is a small biscuit that perfectly fits in your mouth. The combination of strawberry butter and strawberry jam inside the biscuit was perfect. At first, I couldn’t tell if it was butter, and it tasted almost like strawberry cheesecake, yet, the next bite, I could taste the buttercream. The buttercream itself feels rich the moment you put it in your mouth, but when you put it on your tongue, it melts quickly, and it feels like whipped cream with plenty of oil and fat. If you are okay with the large amount of butter used, I recommend you try this butter biscuit.

Now It Is Time for You to Find Some Strawberry Snacks
As one of the most famous fruits during winter in Japan, some typical Japanese sweets using it have appeared over the years. Strawberries in Japan themselves are pretty expensive, depending on where you buy them, but they are worth the price.
If you want to try a Japanese strawberry, but you do not want to spend a lot of money going to a strawberry picking farm or buying strawberries from the supermarket, the alternative is to try these strawberry snacks. They are worth trying and give you many different tastes and sensations. Do not forget that each of the snacks is limited edition, which means you may get only this month to try them, so what are you waiting for?
Feel free to share your strawberry experience with us, and tell us which one is your favourite!
