Welcome Home! Maid Cafes in Akihabara

Dec 31, 2017

Welcome Home! Maid Cafes in Akihabara are cafes in which the waitresses dress up as maids and serve their customers as masters or mistresses. They are instructed to serve you like you are in your home rather than at a cafe. It’s a very interesting and unique experience for anyone who comes to Japan. Because maid cafes are usually associated with the anime and manga subculture, their regular customers are usually otaku, or anime fans, that enjoy the costumes and attention.

Because of this, the most popular and well rated maid cafes are found in the otaku capital of Akihabara. Many times you can find maids out on the streets of Akihabara advertising for their cafe to those passing by.

Here are a few of the most well-known maid cafes in :Akihabara

A long established cafe, it was once the filming location for a very popular Japanese drama called “Densha Otoko” (Train Man) and has risen in popularity because of that.

Address: 1-19, Kanda Sakumacho, Chiyoda, Tokyo

Cure Maid Café

Cure Maid Café is considered the first maid cafe to open in Akihabara and it runs on the theme of the Victorian era.

Address: 3-16-17, Sotokanda, Chiyoda, Tokyo

At most of the above cafes and most maid cafes in general, you are required to pay a seating charge as well as order at least one drink or desert. Sometimes this is included in the seating charge, sometimes it is not, so try to clarify with the staff beforehand. For an extra fee, you can also request a photo with a maid of your choice. You will also have a set time in which you can stay, usually about an hour, and you will have to pay extra to stay longer. Remember that maid cafes, though they may cater to tourists, have many rules. Most cafes do not allow pictures of the girls themselves while in the cafe and also do not allow any touching of their staff members so please try not to be overly friendly with them on your visit there.
