Are you looking for eco-conscious, locally-made gifts for your friends and family? Then this is the article for you! Read on to find the best vegan and eco-friendly markets opening in Tokyo this winter.  

Our Favourite Vegan, Eco-Friendly Christmas Markets in Tokyo

A few years ago, you would be surprised by any mention of a Christmas market with vegan options – but now, in recent years, there are more vegan establishments opening and more small vendors looking to provide Christmas cheer. Let’s dive in!

Christmas Fair at Alishan Park – 9th December

Visit Organic and vegetarian cafe Alishan Park near Yoyogi Park for a special Christmas Fair on Saturday 9th December. Alishan Park is an organic cafe and shop next to Yoyogi Park, run by Alishan Organic Center and is a perfect place to enjoy some delicious food after a morning stroll. They regularly hold crafting, wellness and eco events at the cafe space. 

At the Fair, there will be tasty treats, popups from other shops and lots of activities to join. The cafe will serve a special Christmas menu Jack’s Christmas pudding, Vegan Chocolate Cake, Hot Spiced Apple Juice, and more veggie and vegan yummy food. At the shop, you can browse Christmas cards, gift baskets, pet supplies. Farmer’s market products and Alishan products will be heavily discounted too! 

Why not get in the Christmas mood by joining Alishan’s workshops? Start the day with a Clean Up & Mindfulness Meditation event in the morning. Bring in the holiday spirit with Christmas Garlands Crafting (11:15-12:15)  and Raw Sweets Cooking (11:30-13:00) workshops, and refresh your wardrobe and bookshelf with the Clothes swap 15:00-17:30)  and Book Swap (15:00-17:00). Come with your furry friend and get a Christmas Pets Portrait (11:00-17:00), a keep-sake you’re sure to remember for years to come!

Responsible Marché Xmas Edition – 16th December

Community co-working space Impact HUB will be hosting the Responsible Marché – Xmas Edition this December in Meguro. The Global Hub, with connections to over 100 cities around the world, brings together a diverse range of entrepreneurship, working styles, industries and cultures and holds various responsible eco-living events.

Visit the Responsible Marché for a festive Christmas atmosphere, try some delicious vegan food, enjoy live music and up-cycling workshops and support local vendors and their handmade goods. There are over 15 ethical, local vendors where you can buy vegan donuts, upcycled accessories, vegan candles, textiles & more.

If you’d like to make your loved ones a special Christmas gift, take part in the upcycle workshops! Revamp your textiles through the embroidery stitch workshop (12-13:30PM) and the plant-dyeing workshop (4-5PM), to create a totally unique present!

Azabudai Hills Christmas Market

Azabudai Hills is a newly opened modern urban village filled with nature and greenery. The overall scale behind the Azabudai Hills Christmas Market held in the central plaza promises to be a little different from the above markets, and it’s exciting to see some vegan and ethical options at such a large event!

The Market, which will feature a huge LED bulb-lit Christmas tree, a visit from Santa, and 17 food and drink stalls from various shops and restaurants selling Christmas items from multiple countries, will also include vegan food by 8ablish and ethical goods by ETHNOBOTANY! We can’t wait to check it out!
