Huis Ten Bosch is a resort and theme park, but it is more than just an attraction. Huis Ten Bosch was built in commemoration of the great relationship between Japan and the Netherlands. Since its opening in 1992, its existence has helped the environment surrounding it to thrive better than ever. Huis Ten Bosch has created a balance between ecology and economy with their commitment to continue their efforts to be a sustainable theme park.
What is Huis Ten Bosch?
Huis Ten Bosch, which means “house in the forest” and also known as the “city built from the sea”, was built on land that was once a landfill. To restore its natural state and grow the city’s economy, Huis Ten Bosch was carefully designed to align ecological and economic goals. Built with special permission from the Dutch royal family, Huis Ten Bosch is a reproduction of one of the residences of the Queen of the Netherlands.
What makes this a location to visit any time of the year is its flower kingdom, where you can find several kinds of flowers in bloom throughout all seasons. They also hold some of the best events in all of Nagasaki, with plenty of fireworks shows. Each event caters to all ages, making it the perfect place for families to spend the holidays.

Keeping sustainability in mind throughout its construction, 400,000 trees were planted along with eco-friendly masonry revetments to protect ocean life. To ensure that the surrounding waters are clean and maintained, all sewage from the theme park is purified with an advanced in-house sewage system. Partly powered by solar panels, Huis Ten Bosch is known for its large illumination events, which create beautiful displays. Since its creation, the land surrounding the theme park has flourished and the eco-system has since been restored from when it was just a wasteland. Huis Ten Bosch continues to maintain its commitment to sustainable practices by constantly improving its practices around the park.
