Howdy, all foreigners in Japan or who would be in Japan!!

I am sure that you have been interested in learning Japanese culture and the Japanese languages, however, it might difficult for you to make progress, as there are so many tools and you might get overwhelmed …. In this topic, I would like to introduce 3 famous exhibition halls in Kanto area where exhibitions and events are held regularly throughout the year. You might be able to learn more about Japanese cultures and languages by visiting these facilities as well as finding a job that changes your life there!!

3 famous exhibition halls in Kanto area, nearby Tokyo

There are many exhibition halls in Japan. In this topic, I would like to introduce the most famous 3 exhibition halls in Tokyo, Chiba, and Yokohama.

Tokyo Big Sight

This facility is located at 3-11-1, Ariake, Koto-Ku, Tokyo. You can reach there either by train/monorail, Rinkai-line or Yurikamome respectively, or buses from Tokyo station, Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. Take a water-bus called ‘Suijyo-bus’ could be a unique thing to try out for your exhibition-visiting experience. This facility is divided into two areas, East area (totally 8 halls) and West area (totally 4 halls) and many meeting rooms, restaurants, convenience stores are included. Since Tokyo Olympic would be held in Tokyo, it has been announced that this facility would be partially/totally restricted to public and will be only used for the Olympic purposes for the period between April 2019 and November 2020.

Now, of course, you want to know what exhibitions have been held, right? In October 2017, there would be 36 exhibitions including Plastic Model Hobby Show, Comic City Spark 12, Fashion World Tokyo 2017 Autumn, Recruit Exhibition and so on. Basically, you are obliged to cover some entrance fees, usually between 1,500 – 5,000 yen depending on what exhibition it is, you may also get a free ticket by pre-registration by internet for some exhibitions. Believe or not, some people sitting in front of their PC throughout the night for free ticket opening.

Please visit the site at, www.bigsight.jp/english/ for more information.

Makuhari Messe

This facility is located at 2-1 Nakase, Mihama-Ku, Chiba-shi, Chiba. The most convenient pathway to this facility should be by Keiyo-Line from Tokyo to Kaihin-Makuhari where Makuhari Messe is located. It takes about 35 minutes from Tokyo to Kaihin-Makuhari. However, Keiyo-Line in Tokyo station is located around 5 minutes from the central entrance of Tokyo station. Also, the facility is a little bit far from the train station of Kaihin-Makuhari, 5 – 8 minutes, thus, it would be realistic to think that it takes about one hour from the Tokyo station to get there. Also, from Ginza or Tokyo station, some buses which take about 45 – 60 minutes are available. This facility has 11 exhibition halls and one international event hall.

Compared to Tokyo Big Sight, there are more music events including concerts held at Makuhari Messe. You could find what exhibitions/events would be held at this facility at the following site, https:www.m-messe.co.jp/sp/en/

On the way to or back from Kaihin-Makuhari by Keiyo-Line, you could even stop by Maihama where Tokyo Disney Land/Sea is located and have a dinner under the atmosphere of Disney after an exhibition at Makuhari Messe.

Pasifico Yokohama

The location of this facility is at 1-1-1, Minato Mirai, Nishi-Ku, Yokohama-Shi, Kanagawa. It takes about 3 minutes from Yokohama Station to Minato Mirai Station by Minato Mirai-Line followed by 5 minutes walk. You could also take JR Keihin Tohoku-Line from Yokohama to Sakuragi Cho, you have to walk more than 10 minutes from Sakuragi Cho Station to the facility though. There is a mall-like area in between and you could do some shopping at many fancy/neat stores on the way, you could enjoy a dinner and/or lunch at many restaurants located in the mall as well. The size of this facility is smaller than those of Tokyo Big Sight and Makuhari Messe. However, the events which are held at this facility are more varied and some private events are included as well, you could get more information at:

www.pacifico.co.jp/english/tabid/500/Default.aspx

As you may know, there are many sight-seeing spots in Yokohama such as Yokohama Chukagai (Yokohama China Town), Yokohama Aka Renga Soko (Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse), Yamashita Park and so on. The red bus called “Akai Kutsu Go” from Sakuragi Cho Station for sightseeing costs only 220 yen/ride for visiting 9 spots including Yokohama Chukagai and Yamashita Park. If you buy “Minato Burari Ticket” at 500 yen, you could get on Yokohama City bus and Yokohama Metro including this Akai Kutsu Go one-day free pass and using it without limit.

As I mentioned, there are many exhibitions, events and concerts at those facilities, in case it’s difficult for you to get there by yourself, please let me know, I might be able to guide you at very low expenses, ha, ha! Good luck and please enjoy!
