This week Japanese payment system PASMO announced it has launched support for Apple Pay which allows users to pay with with iPhone or Apple Watch.

Implementation of the 2020 National Tax Survey (Deadline 7th October!)

The Japanese government is conducting a census, the deadline of which was Wednesday 7th October. Although the deadline has already passed, let’s take a little look at what the census is all about.This census is held every five years and is an important statistical survey the results of which is used for city planning to make life easier for foreign residents.But am I qualified for the census? The census covers people that have lived of planned to live in Japan for more than three months, regardless of nationality. The responses will be used to create statistics and will not be used for investigations by the police or for immigration control.You should have received a survey in your mailbox, the reply can be sent by mail or online.But if you forgot about it, don’t panic! If your response was not confirmed by Wednesday October 7th a Census Taker will contact you for your responses. You can also call the Census Call Center if you have not received the Census or are having difficult with the document. The number for the Call Center, and instructions on how to fill in the Census are available at this link in English with links to other languages available.

Kenzo Takada, the founder of fashion brand KENZO, dies from COVID-19 complications

Kenzo Takada, founder of the popular fashion brand KENZO has died at age 81 due to complications from COVID-19 virus. He passed away at the American Hospital in Paris. He moved to France in the 1960s and was the first Japanese designer to gain fame on the Paris fashion scene. With “nearly 8,000 designs” he is a huge name in the fashion industry. His clothes show influence from Japanese designs, and he I known for being a designer ahead of his time.

PASMO Transit Cards now Supported by Apple Pay

This week Japanese payment system PASMO announced it has launched support for Apple Pay which allows users to pay with with iPhone or Apple Watch. They have also announced Express Transit support which enables users to pass through the gates quickly without having to wake up or unlock their devices. Apple Pay and Express Transit mode has been compatible for years with SUICA cards and now that usage has been expanded to PASMO cards, often used on the Tokyo Metro lines.
