Cozy Restaurants in Shinjuku to Try

When planning to meet friends in Shinjuku, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with choices. We’ve got you covered with this list of restaurants where you’ll feel right at home.

Attic Room

Attic Room is a cafe with three shops in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ginza. The Shinjuku branch is located on the top floor of a small building in the Shinjuku Sanchome area.

During the day, the space is warmed up by the light coming in through the large windows. At night, the soft lighting creates a relaxing atmosphere that will make you forget about the hustle of Shinjuku just outside the door.

The interior is spacious: 42 seats, and both table and sofa seats allow you to spend time with a bigger group of friends.

From affordable lunch sets to full-on dinner courses, Attic Room is great at any time of the day. The cakes and drinks are my favorites for an after-dinner treat. Try the New York-style cheesecake or the blueberry rare cheesecake.

Check out the official site here: Attic Room.

Acorn is a modern izakaya located in the heart of the bustling Shinjuku Nichome.

Acorn’s menu is extensive, but the restaurant takes pride in the great variety of cured meats and cheeses available, from standard to rare ones, imported from Italy and Spain, as well as the impressive selection of more than 30 kinds of domestic and international wines and ten kinds of draft and bottled beer, original cocktails, and highballs.

The interior is modern and represents the perfect fusion between the concept of a Japanese “pub” izakaya, where a selection of dishes are shared while drinking and talking, and a sophisticated European restaurant’s food selection and atmosphere.

Mugi no Oto

Mugi no Oto is a trendy and modern restaurant and bar in the Kabukicho area of Shinjuku. But make sure the steel, modern-looking, cold appearance doesn’t deceive you: the staff are warm and friendly and will be able to advise on the great range of natural wines and craft beers available.

The cuisine is a fusion between Italian and Japanese, from pasta to sushi. But the real star of the show are the craft beers on tap, bottles and cans written on the steel board near the main counter.

What makes the place even better? The regular events and live music shows.

Check the Mugi no Oto Instagram page for updates!

More Than Tapas Lounge is a spacious Spanish-style restaurant on the Knot Hotel’s first floor.

The restaurant opens at 7 AM and closes at 11 PM, covering all meals of the day. Start with a continental breakfast with freshly baked bread from the local “more than bakery”. From 11 AM to 3 PM, they serve a yummy lunch buffet with a range of tapas, a ton of locally grown vegetables from Kanagawa, delicious in-house-made dressings, fresh bread, and bottomless tea.

MORE THAN Shinjuku

The lounge also has some seating outside, so take advantage of the sunny days ahead – at least before the rainy season starts.

Dinner is when the lounge’s sophisticated atmosphere comes out, with dim lights, candles, and soft jazz music. Start with some tapas, get your paella fix and end with a juicy steak from the grill.

Don’t forget to pair your dinner with a delicious sweet Sangria.

Brooklyn Parlor

The concept behind Brooklyn Parlor is creating a space where you can enjoy all “futile” things of life, such as music, books, and good food: you can survive without them, but would it really be worth calling it life?

This hybrid restaurant, cafe, bar and bookshop is located on the B1F of Shinjuku Marui Annex, about a 1-minute walk from Shinjuku Sanchome Station.

Upon entering, you first see the stylish lounge space with over 2,500 books, and the whole ambience reminds you of hipster cafes in New York.

There are counter seats that are perfect if you visit alone, as well as sofa seats that are perfect for spending a relaxing time with a larger group of friends.

The dinner menu varies from salads to steaks. One of the most popular items is the hamburger: the bun is freshly baked, so it’s soft inside but has a crispy texture, and the patty is packed with meat and paired with a rich gravy.

You can also find Brooklyn Parlor in Osaka and Fukuoka. Find more here: Brooklyn Parlor.
